AAC Conference Round-Up

We know how Temple faired against Navy last weekend in their conference matchup. But how about the other AAC matchups over the weekend? Let’s take a look:

USF– 25

Tulsa- 24

No. 23 USF continued their undefeated season last Saturday after a tightly-contested win against Tulsa.

Blake Barnett kept his team undefeated after a comeback win vs. Tulsa.

The Bulls scored 15 unanswered points and junior quarterback Blake Barnett led a seven-play, 52-yard scoring drive in the last minute.. Sophomore kicker Cody Weiss hit a 22-yard field goal with two seconds remaining to complete the comeback over the now 1-5 Golden Hurricane.

Jordan Cronkrite, the Bulls’ junior running back, extended his streak of 100-yard rushing games to four after he scored one touchdown on 151 yards of rushing.

The Bulls’ will now welcome UConn to their home turf Saturday night to kick off their homecoming weekend.

 

UCF– 31

Memphis- 30

The AAC’s other undefeated team, No. 10 UCF, also pulled out a nail biter win over their opponent in last year’s conference championship game, the Memphis Tigers.

The Knights were down 30-17 at the half and nothing seemed to be the way it had been in games past. In the second half, the defense came out swinging and shutout the Tiger offense. The UCF offense managed to pull through and scored two touchdowns and to extend their winning streak to 19 games, the longest in the country.

Junior quarterback McKenzie Milton threw for 296 yards with one touchdown through the air and one on the ground. Sophomore wide receiver Gabe Davis had a career high 128 yards for his second 100 yard receiving game of the year.

The Knights will travel to ECU on Saturday looking to extend their winning streak to 20 games.

 

Houston– 42

ECU- 20

Houston improved their record in conference play to 2-0 last Saturday with a big win over ECU 42-20. The Cougars have now won three straight games.

The Cougar defense four turnovers which the offense turned into 14 points. The Pirates were also limited to just 41 rushing yards on 31 carries, which is the lowest total allowed by the Cougars since October 2017 when they allowed 30 yards to Memphis.

Junior quarterback D’Eriq King led the team to back-to-back scores on the offense’s first two drives. He ended the game with 209 passing yards with two passing touchdowns and one running touchdown before being taken out in the fourth quarter when the Cougars held a 42-6 lead. Ed Oliver, the junior All-American defensive end, had a sensational game with two sacks, a forced fumble, and five tackles for loss.

The Cougars will continue their road trip as they take on Navy at 3:30 pm on Saturday afternoon.
