Field Hockey Falls 4-1 vs Lafayette

On Sunday afternoon, the Owls hosted the Lafayette Leopards for their Senior Day. Even with excitement and energy brought onto the turf, the Leopards dominated the Owls 4-1.

 

Lafayette took control immediately when Theresa Delahanty scored her first goal of the season within 6 minutes.The Owls continued to play strong defense and were able to maintain possession for the majority of the game. However, Lafayette dictated the first half with 6 offensive corners and 8 shots on goal.

The Owls made a run in the second half with a strong offensive start, but it did not last long when the Leopards scored another goal in in minute 46 off of a 16 yard-hit pass. Anna Steps swept a clean pass from Lisa van der Geest into the net, advancing the Leopards to 2-0.

Temple responded 6 minutes later, finally taking advantage of their second offensive corner of the game. Lucy Reed scored her second goal of the season after several passes were made within the circle. But 30 seconds later, the Owls had a breakdown in their defensive circle on the Leopard’s ninth offensive corner of the game, leaving the Owls down 3-1.

Lafayette’s tactic of using the entire field was essential to their success of this game. The Leopards progressed to their 11th offensive corner of the game where Audrey Sewers scored their 4th and final goal of the game with less than 25 minutes remaining.

 

This was the last game of the regular season. The Owls now stand at 4-14 for the season. The Owl will miss their seniors, Maiyah Brown, Sarah Keer, Ashley Kucera, Hattie Kuhns, and Rachel Mueller, next season.
