Field Hockey Looks for a Big Win in Showdown with Northwestern

rp_primary_Delp_Alyssa_webPhiladelphia- After defeating Monmouth University 4-2 on Friday, the Owls return home for a Sunday showdown with #12 ranked Northwestern.

Temple is looking for their first win against a ranked opponent this season as they have had some tough losses to #3 ranked Maryland and #7 ranked Penn State and have also lost to #18 Delaware.

In Friday’s win against Monmouth, Temple (3-4) was led senior forward Alyssa Delp and senior midfielder Sarah Deck. Delp scored three of the team’s four goals to record her first career hat trick and Deck added a goal and an assist.

Delp now leads the team with seven goals while Deck has found the back of the net six times this season.

Northwestern comes into this one ranked #12 in the nation with a record of 6-3. The Wildcats are coming off of a 3-2 loss to #10 ranked Maryland in what was their Big 10 conference opener. They are led by junior midfielders Dominique Masters and Isabel Flens who both have scored eight goals this season.

The Wildcats now have a 1-3 record against ranked opponents this season as they have a win over #11 ranked Boston College. But, they have lost to #1 Connecticut and #7 Duke along with the loss to #10 Maryland on Friday.

This is the first game of a very tough stretch for Temple as they play a ranked opponent in four of their next five games concluding with a showdown against #1 Connecticut on October 9.
