Record Breaking Applications for Class of 2021

For the fourth year in a row, Temple University has broken the record for its number of applications.

Almost 37,000 people applied to be part of the class of 2021. Last year’s record was 34,504 applications by the deadline of March 1st, while this year it was 36,840. Temple enrolls approximately 5,100 freshmen annually.

President Richard M. Englert does not find the numbers surprising.

“Temple continues to offer a unique blend of excellence, affordability and diversity in one of our nation’s great cities,” Englert said. “Although we are still early in the admissions process, the academic strength and diversity of our admitted students gives me confidence that we are poised to welcome an outstanding Class of 2021 to Temple and to Philadelphia.”

Temple contributes the overwhelming interest to its academic reputation, campus improvements, and efforts to limit student debt, like the Fly in 4 program. The football team also gained national attention this year with its 10-win season, American Athletic Conference championship win, and second bowl game.

A year ago, almost 2,700 admitted students and their families visited campus on Experience Temple Day. This February, that rose to 3,100, which is the largest turnout yet.
