Senior running back Jahad Thomas led the Temple offense for the second straight week on the way to a 48-20 victory over the Charlotte 49ers. Thomas rushed for 68 yards along with 49 yards receiving and two touchdowns. He seems to be in mid-season form after missing the first two weeks of the season with a dislocated thumb.

The Owls opened the scoring with a 12 play, 58 yard drive that led to an Austin Jones 36 yard field goal.

After Charlotte’s 16 play touchdown drive to make it 7-3, Temple proceeded to score 28 unanswered points to take a 31-7 lead heading into halftime. Phillip Walker found Adonis Jennings down the field for a 51 yard touchdown, the longest of Jennings’ career. A fumble recovery by Praise Martin-Oguike led to a 13 yard touchdown by Jahad Thomas. The second quarter marked the first time since 2014 the Owl’s scored 28 points in a quarter.

The Owls capped off the half with a six play, 46 yard drive concluding with a one yard touchdown run by Ryquell Armstead.

Charlotte opened the second half with a four play, 78 yard drive, ending with a 66 yard touchdown run by Kalif Phillips. Phillips rushed for over 100 yards for the first time this season.

The Owls answered with an 11 play, 74 yard drive of their own; ending with a one yard touchdown run from Jahad Thomas. Phillip Walker passed for 58 yards in the drive, including a 28 pass to Keith Kirkwood.

After forcing a Charlotte to punt, Walker led Temple on another four play, 66 yard drive, finished off by Ryquell Armstead’s one yard touchdown run, his second of the game.

Walker continued his fine play following the Penn State game, throwing for 268 yards, and two touchdowns. Walker spread the ball to eight different receivers, however, only three receivers had more than two receptions. It was the first time this season Walker did not throw an interception. Redshirt Sophomore Brodrick Yancy tallied for receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown on the day.

Defensively, the Owls were led by Nate L. Smith, and Derrick Thomas, who each picked up six tackles. For the second straight week, the defense did not have a sack. Interestingly, redshirt senior wide receiver Romond Deloatch picked up a sack on the last play of the second half.

Next week, the Owls take on SMU in their first American Athletic Conference game of the season.
