Temple Women’s Basketball Beats A Ranked Team For The First Time This Season

Temple Women’s Basketball defeated a ranked DePaul squad Thursday night. This is the first time this season that Temple has knocked off a team that is ranked. This puts the Owls at 6-3 on the season and DePaul will fall to 6-4.

Temple came out with a statement in the first quarter by going up by 24-16. DePaul came back in the second quarter responding well and outscoring Temple 19-10 and leading by 1 at the half. Temple was able to keep DePaul at a 10% three-point shooting effort in the first half while Temple was shooting 37.5% in regards to three-pointers. The second half of the game was dominated by Temple. As a team, the Owls were shooting field goals at 46.7%, three-pointers at 55.6% and free throws at 85%.. Temple won with a final score of 84-74. The Owls notched 16 points in the paint and 16 points from the bench. Temple, as a team, also had a total of 51 rebounds.

Outstanding performances were shown by senior Feyonda Fitzgerald who totaled 25 points in total and 18 in the second half and made 9-10 free throws. Juniors Alliya Butts and Donnaizha Fountain both had great performances, too. Butts notched 30 points and Fountain had 13 points and 13 rebounds. Senior Ruth Sherill also contributed 11 rebounds and 8 points.

The Owls next game will be on Saturday at Rutgers.
