Temple University announced this morning that they will be renewing their football series with Penn State.

The series will be comprised of two games, one played in Philadelphia and one played at Beaver Stadium. The games are set for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

In July, Philadelphia Inquirer’s Marc Narducci reported that the two schools were in negotiations to bring back the rivalry. Today, the two sides finally agreed upon the terms.

Temple University’s athletic director, Dr. Pat Kraft, said in his statement, “When the Owls have taken on Penn State in the past, there has always been added excitement, and I am thrilled to get this series back on the schedule. We want to provide our fans with marquee matchups here at home and within travel distance on the road and Penn State fits that bill.”

The last time Temple and Penn State football played was in 2016, where the Nittany Lions narrowly defeated the Owls 34-27. While the rivalry has been in favor of Penn State throughout the years, Temple has seen continuous improvement even defeating the Nittany Lions in 2015 for the first time since 1941.

Penn State now joins the likes of Georgia Tech, Duke, Miami (FL) and Oklahoma as out of conference teams the Owls will be playing in the future.
