Supervising Producer

Joe McHughJoe McHugh is in his seventh semester with Temple Update. After starting as an Update Now volunteer in his second semester, he quickly worked his way up the ranks from producing Update Now to live shot technician to directing Temple Update. Joe is now supervising producer, overseeing the production of Temple Update and Update Now.  He spent Fall 2016 as a Los Angeles correspondent working towards his dream job of producing the news in a top media market.  While in LA he interned with the CBS 2/KCAL 9 investigative team.  His other professional endeavors include interning in NBC10’s news department, producing a film festival-featured documentary, and managing multiple social media platforms for philly.com, The Inquirer and the Daily News. He’s dabbled in sports production including directing live Temple volleyball games for OwlsTV and the American Athletic Digital Network. He currently works as a production assistant back at NBC10. When he’s not working for Temple Update, you can find him exploring the world in pursuit of the perfect plate of nachos.

Producers

Jeseamy Muentes is a senior journalism major, who has volunteered with Temple Update all four years at Temple University. She has anchored the Spanish and English newscasts and pioneered the website as Temple Update’s first Web Producer close to three years ago. Muentes has been involved in all areas of production, from reporting to helping mold the Update brand on social media.  Most recently, she has taken on the role of Producer for the Thursday newscasts. She spent her junior year as a newsroom intern with 6ABC / WPVI-TV and was lucky enough to assist both 6ABC & TUTV with their coverage of the Papal Visit in September 2015. Muentes was a reporter for MTN News covering the Montana delegation during the Democratic National Convention this past summer. Muentes hopes to land a full-time news producer position upon graduation in December. Outside of her studies, she works in technology and is currently training for her first full marathon.

Spencer Trabbold is a junior Media Studies and Production major in his fifth semester with Temple Update. This is his second semester producing the live show. Prior to being a producer, Spencer worked with Update Now, which he co-produced his freshman year, and also worked as a live shot/field producer, covering major events such as the Mayoral Election and Pope Francis’s visit to Philadelphia. This past summer, Spencer not only interned at SNJ Today in South Jersey, but also produced 5 days worth of live coverage of the Democratic National Convention. When Spencer’s not in studio 3 (which is a rare occurrence), you can find him serving up pancakes at Kessel’s Korner or shredding some swell in Ocean City, New Jersey.

 

WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Cassandra Semyon, better known as Cassie, is a sophomore media studies and production major with a minor in political science and a concentration in intercultural communications. As a freshman, Cassie was a producer of Update Now, TUTV’s 90-second news brief, and volunteered as a live shot/field producer and web writer with Temple Update. Now in her second year with Temple Update, Cassie is the website and social media producer. Last summer, she interned with WBRE-WYOU in Wilkes-Barre, PA as a newsroom intern. She also acted as website and social media producer for TUTV’s live coverage of the Democratic National Convention. In addition to her work with Temple Update, Cassie is a student worker with TUTV, where she is a producer and programing assistant. If she not in master control or in studio three, she’s probably running around Philadelphia training for her third half marathon.

 

SPORTS DIRECTOR

Dan Ray is a Junior Media Studies and Production student with a minor Political Science. As the Sports Director, he coordinates and oversees all of Temple Update’s coverage of Temple Athletics, both on the air and on the web. Dan also reports and films for Temple Update. This summer, he was one of TUTV’s live reporters from the Democratic National Convention, covering stories at the Wells Fargo Center and around Philadelphia. This semester, Daniel is interning at Comcast SportsNet in their Digital Media department. He also works for TUTV and at the Temple Performing Arts Center. One of the only students not from the tri-state area, Dan was born and raised in Cumberland, Maine and is a graduate of Greely High School. Dan has been involved with TUTV since his freshman year, starting as volunteer and anchor for Update Now. As a native New Englander, Dan takes every opportunity to comment on Boston’s 9 combined championships in the past 15 years and that Tom Brady is the best quarterback of all time.

Editing Manager

Logan Moritz is a sophomore media studies and production major, who is currently a producer for Temple Update’s Update Now, along with being Temple Update’s Editing Manager. Logan has also helped with other Temple University Television shows such as Temple Smash and Temple Athletics. Along with television, Logan has interned at WNPV radio station (AM 1440) in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. When Logan is not in the studio, she enjoys listening to new music and dancing, which she has been doing since she was three years old.

 

Volunteer Coordinator

Erin PattersonErin Patterson started her Temple Update career as a volunteer for Update Now. After just one semester, she was named director and producer of the daily news briefs.  In Spring of 2015, she took a semester off from news production to fulfill her lifelong dream of living in Rome.  After four months of a lifetime, Erin returned to Temple Update and became editing manager just in time to oversee TV3’s transition from analog to HD capabilities. Erin had the opportunity to report live during TUTV’s weekend-long coverage of Philadelphia’s papal visit.  She interned at 6abc’s Programming and Production department last spring while she also worked as Update’s assistant director and brought live news and weather to Update viewers. This fall she interned at KABC and reported for Temple Update as a Los Angeles correspondent. During her last semester at Temple she is back at 6abc as a news intern and is Temple Update’s volunteer coordinator. After college, Erin wants to travel the world as a journalist, photographer, and most importantly a storyteller.

Update Now Producers

Maxwell Bass is a Freshmen Media Studies and Production Major in his second semester with Temple Update. Max is currently Co-Producing and Directing Temple Update’s Update Now while also being one of the Photogs, Graphic Designers, and XPression Operators for Temple Update. Max is also involved with other Temple University Television shows which include OwlSports Update, Temple Talk, Temple Tonight, The Vibe, and We Make the Call. When Max is not in Annenberg, he is working in the Olde World Cheese Department at Wegmans or cheering on Philly sports teams.

Brianna Dent is a freshman Media Studies and Production major in her second semester working with Temple Update. She started as a volunteer for Update Now and We Make the Call, and then began co-producing and directing Update Now. She does other crew work for Temple Update in addition to being a writer/researcher. When Brianna is not in the studio, she enjoys playing tennis and guitar, snowboarding, and spending every evening in the Louis J. Esposito Dining Center.
 

Update Ahora Producers

Jared Horst is a junior Advertising major with a concentration in Account Management and has been involved with Temple Update since his sophomore year. Now a co-producer and director for Update Ahora, Jared continues to write and anchor for the show as well. In the past, he has been cameraman for video packages in Temple Update and online. He was also a writer for the website for a short time. When not in the studio, Jared enjoys riding bike around campus or getting a cheesesteak at Richie’s.
 
 
Sierra Guenst is a senior communications major with a Spanish minor. She transferred to Temple during her sophomore year and began anchoring with Update Ahora during her junior year. Now as a co-producer and director of Update Ahora, Guenst also writes and anchors for the show when needed or does other crew work. She loves being in the studio practicing her Spanish, as well as playing basketball or exploring Philly.
