Charlotte Russe Shutdown

Charlotte Russe is emptying its shelves, and once everything is gone, the affordable women’s clothing store is officially out of business.

On Feb. 5 the company, which opened in 1975, announced it would close select locations across the United States. When potential buyers fell through, Charlotte Russe filed for bankruptcy, and on March 9, announced it would shut down completely.

It’s the end of an era and some customers feel it is a devastating blow to them and their wallets. Charlotte Russe was known as an affordable, accessible brand during the decades it was open. Temple Update’s Jayna Alexandra spoke to some women who are worried about what the future holds for their wardrobes and their budgets. Long-time employees are on the hunt for new jobs after rising in the ranks at Charlotte Russe.

This closing comes after a poor year for retail chains, as Charlotte Russe joins Payless in going out of business. Meanwhile, Victoria’s Secret, Gap, and J.C. Penney are closing some stores during 2019.
