Future Owls Fly to Campus

Many were wondering why campus was more packed than usual on a weekend. Over 7,000 students gathered in the Liacouras Center this past weekend, but they weren’t Temple Students. The crowd that gathered was in fact high school students hoping to one day be a Temple Owl.

High School senior, Steven Thompson says, “I want to get a feel for the dorm life and everything and go down and get a lecture from the business school.”

Marykate Foley adds, “I heard about Temple for a while and I really wanted to see it in person.”

Temple hosted it’s annual Fall Open House on Saturday. Booths for almost every club, sport, and activity were set up at the Liacouras Center and Temple students were there to encourage the high school students that Temple is the right choice.

Tori Cuccurullo has an older sibling at Temple, and already knew it was the right choice prior to her visit. “I love the atmosphere that Temple provides. The diversity here is so attractive and getting involved, I loved the opportunities that Temple gives their students,” she says.

The next stop of the day was the bell tower, where students got a chance to take campus tours. Future Owl hopefuls and their parents lined up to get a better feel of what campus is like and a chance to see what Temple students experience everyday. Owl Team Leaders led the tours and were there to answer the many questions both parents and students had.

“My favorite part is probably just getting to meet all the perspective students and trying to really give them a feel for the different opportunities that Temple offers and then trying to match those opportunities with their interests so that they really can choose Temple,” says Owl Ambassador, Thomas Montalvano

Sean Killion is the associate director of University Housing and Residential Life. He says open houses are a great way of recruiting students to not only come to Temple, but to choose to live on campus.

He adds, “we’re always interested in making sure our residence halls are filled so we love talking about the on campus housing experience because students who live on campus actually do better in school.”

The next time Temple will open its doors to high school students for open house is Sunday November 17th. For more information, or to register for the next open house visit the Undergraduate Admissions website.
