Temple Athletics Managing Teams During a Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the Temple athletic department to adapt to many new challenges. Temple Athletics use their facilities every day for games, practices, and training as every team but football is playing this spring. Liacouras holds Men’s basketball games and practices. McGonigle Hall hosts women’s basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics, as well as practices.

Temple field hockey cancelled for Fall 2020, will look to Spring 2021

At least one Temple sports team won’t be hitting the field this fall. With the announcement coming from the Big East conference yesterday that fall sports will be postponed until spring 2021, Temple field hockey is the first team at the university to lose out on a fall season. Game Called On Account of Fireworks

Temple women’s field hockey was locked in a tight 0-0 game with No. 24 Maine when the first overtime period ended. As the two teams were preparing for the second overtime period, they were ordered to leave the field. Kent State University, which hosted the game, cancelled the game at the last second so a fireworks display for the Kent State football team could be accomodated.

Field Hockey Falls 4-1 vs Lafayette

On Sunday afternoon, the Owls hosted the Lafayette Leopards for their Senior Day. Even with excitement and energy brought onto the turf, the Leopards dominated the Owls 4-1. Lafayette took control immediately when Theresa Delahanty scored her first goal of the season within 6 minutes.The Owls continued to play strong defense and were able to maintain possession for the majority of the game.
