Philadelphia Faces 911 Dispatcher Shortage

Police and city officials say that Philadelphia’s 911 call center has been experiencing a shortage of dispatchers. With this shortage, students are wondering if Temple Police or Campus Safety are affected. Alicia Marcantoni, a junior at Temple, says she was at a friend’s house when 911 didn’t answer her call. City Council Approves $4.9 Billion Budget

Philadelphia’s City Council gave preliminary approval Wednesday to reduce police funding by $14 million and re-investing in the arts, anti-poverty and affordable housing. The proposed budget comes amid worldwide protests against police brutality after the death of George Floyd. It is also a reversal of Mayor Jim Kenney’s original plan to increase police funding by $19 million.

Bucks Man Arrested After Temple Threats

A resident of Bucks County was arrested last weeks following threats made against Temple University. Police say that 29-year-old Patrick Buhler was arrested on charges of harassment and making terroristic threats following an incident at a Walmart in Levittown. According to police and witnesses, Buhler, while buying a rifle and bullets, made comments of a violent nature about the university.
