The Tyler School of Art and Temple Library will team up next Tuesday to host their sixth annual Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon.
With a stated goal of remedying gender gaps on Wikipedia, attendees will edit articles to reflect views on all sides of the gender spectrum.
According to the hosts of the event, “The Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of editors on the platform were women. When we’re not represented in the writing and editing of the stories and records of people like us, the content gets messed up. The stories get mistold. We lose out on the real history.”
Notably, this year, the event will expand its reach to include representation for non-binary activists and figures on Wikipedia.
The event will include lessons on editing, citing, and updating Wikipedia articles for beginners, and student of all gender backgrounds and identities are encouraged to attend and participate.
After the edit-a-thon, attendees will be invited to attend intersectionality between art, technology, and gender, complete with guest speakers and experts in the fields of art and feminist studies.
The event will be held next Tuesday in the Engineering Building, room 104.
