Women Come Together Over Potential Clinton Presidency

Hundreds of delegates, convention volunteers and activists gathered to celebrate the influence of women in the Democratic Party and America Tuesday morning.

“We’re going to elect the first female president of the United States of America,” said Interim DNC Chairwoman Donna Brazile — followed by a roar of applause.

Speakers of the Caucus included Brazile, Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi and actress Eva Longoria — each containing a message encouraging the strength of women within the party. “In our Caucus, we declare when women succeed, America succeeds,” said Pelosi.

Ruth Musser-Lopez of California is a Clinton delegate, and she remembers growing up when inequality among men and women was strong.

“It’s [a] learned behavior. And this changes the whole perspective,” she said, reflecting on the potential of the first female president in the Oval Office. “This changes the behavior.”

The caucus attracted different generations of women, yet their feelings toward a female candidate for president were all similar.

“She gives me hope to one day run for public office and know that it’s possible too,” said Letreshia Hamilton, a Clinton delegate from Houston.

Hamilton has several nieces. She said a Clinton presidency would inspire them to follow their dreams in life. “It shows them that their opportunities are not limited…that they, too, can be president one day.”

But for DNC Interim Chair Donna Brazile, the caucus was about rallying for a big win in November.

“What can you do to help Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine?” she asked the crowd. “Do every damn thing you’ve been doing all your life and do it better than before because that’s what we need from you,” she said to an applause, erupting in agreement shortly after.
