A Temple Student Shines on Broadway

Jasmine Villaroel is turning her studies into standing ovations. By day, she is a senior musical theatre student at Temple University, but at night, she trades her books for Broadway.

“I’m getting to do more than I thought would have been possible, especially while I am still in school,” shared Villaroel.

For the past year, Villaroel has been performing as a swing in the hit show “The Great Gatsby”. This unique role requires Villaroel to be prepared to step into multiple roles at a moment’s notice. This demanding schedule is on top of her full course load at Temple. However, With the support of her classmates and cast mates, she balances commutes, rehearsals, and classes without missing a beat.

“Normally, I commute three to four times a week. I’ll go to my morning classes, hop on the train and go back to New York”, she explained.

Just months ago, Villaroel was performing on Temple University’s stage. Now, she’s now captivating audiences on Broadway night after night, proving that Temple University isn’t just about earning a degree, it’s about making your dreams a reality.

“Know that no dream is too unreasonable, or too big or too far-fetched,” she shared.

Reflecting on her journey, Villaroel also acknowledged the role of past challenges, saying “I think everything that I didn’t book or didn’t get cast in led me here”.

Villaroel’s story is a testament to the fact that with dedication, hard work, and finding the right balance, the stage is set for greatness.
