Fans gathered outside of Citizens Bank Park Tuesday for tailgating events before the Phillies’ home opener. The first home game of the season was scheduled for Monday but due to considerable rain was delayed until Tuesday.
On a partly cloudy day with some sun peaking through, thousands of Phillies fans came out to support the team and enjoy the beginning of the home baseball season. Many fans lined up to purchase ice cream, to take joy rides down a short zip line or to listen to the live band.
The Phillies’ mascot, the Phanatic, also helped throw signed baseballs to the fans. The Phanatic, however, was not the only one throwing baseballs. Fans had the opportunity to warm up their pitching arm and throw to a simulated catcher. One grandfather and his grandson took a picture to show their Phillies pride. The Phillies did not come out on top at their home opener, but fans enjoyed the pre-events at Citizens Bank Park.
The Phillies will play eight home games against the Brewers, Marlins, Braves and other league members.
