The Career Center offers services to students that help jumpstart their careers. One program offered is Career Week, an event that allows students to attend a variety of professional development sessions. Resumania, Careers Beyond The Cash Register, The Federal Job Search Workshop and Employer Panel are just a few programs of Career Week that enable students to tweak their resumes and provide insight into the job market.
During the Kickoff event, Career Center Senior Director Rosalie Shemmer stresses that the goal of Career Week and The Career Center as a whole is to prepare all students for the workforce. She states, “We think each student is individual and we want to meet them where they’re at. So some students come in and have already done internships and want to do more and we’ll meet them where they’re at. But for the students who have no clue about what they want to do next we’ll work with them as well.”
Temple students Mohab Abou-Elalla and Huy Dinh, who both attended Resumania were vocal about the appreciation of the event. Both students met with employers from Target who reviewed their resumes. “They were critiquing my resume and it helped me a lot because it taught me a lot of new things that I need to add to my resume,” says Media Studies and Production student Mohab Abou-Elalla.
The week-long event closes with a University-Wide Job Fair with over one hundred employers that allows students to present their freshly revised resumes and implement new skills acquired from the variety of sessions held throughout the week. Career Week is over for this semester but will happen again in the Spring. Stay up-to-date with any other Career Center events by visiting their events and workshops page. Anyone seeking advice about a resume or starting their career can stop by the Career Center between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm at 220 Mitten Hall.
