Cherry Pantry’s Student Success Fair

Temple’s Cherry Pantry hosted the Student Success Fair on Monday.  Organized at the Howard Gittis Student Center, the fair spotlighted various departments bent on ensuring students’ success.
Although the fair was on hold for the last couple of years, students had the opportunity to explore various resources available to them.

Caroline Somers, a worker for Sharing Excess and freshman at Temple explains how they’re contributing to the Pantry’s efforts:

“We’re working at the Student Success Fair because a lot of our goal is to help with food insecurity among the student population.”

The fair shed light not only on food insecurity, but also physical wellness.  Campus Dietician Lory Lorditch gave some detail about what role Student Health Services aims to play:

“Our department as a whole, student health services is sort of like your doctor office away from home.  So students can come there for a visit at no additional cost just to check in with any kind of medical concern they have.”

For students who feel they need help managing stress or otherwise, mental health resources are also available via the Wellness Resource Center.  Events and Communications Specialist Jasmine Oyefusi spoke on the value of reaching out:

“They can have these toolkits for themselves and know, okay if I’m feeling stressed, if I’m feeling anxious, they can do some grounding techniques.  so just having all these resources that they’re learning now and can carry with them in the future.”

In addition to physical and mental health needs, students mapping out their professional progress can meet with peer advisors at the Career Center in Mitten Hall.  One of these student peers, Saumika Pandey, was surprised how many students she spoke with weren’t aware of the free tools available to them:

“Students can essentially just walk into the Career Center and then they can meet with a career peer where they can again get their resume reviewed and ask any questions about their career development or professional growth.”

As these services don’t cost students anything on top of tuition, they shouldn’t hesitate to reach out and make sure they have the tools to aid in their success at Temple.
