A Temple University senior has turned himself in to federal authorities in connection with an anti-ICE protest that drew national attention in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Temple Update spoke with Richardson for the first time since his arrest.
Federal agents arrested Jerome Deangelo Richardson, 21, on Feb. 2 after an incident at a church protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement, where demonstrators disrupted worship services. Richardson has since been released from custody while awaiting his next federal court date.
Those protests in the Twin Cities have brought significant attention to clashes between immigration enforcement and activists. Among the events drawing scrutiny was the detention of former CNN anchor Don Lemon, who was taken into custody while covering nearby demonstrations, though his case has its own legal developments.

Richardson, a senior at Temple University from Minneapolis, had assisted journalists in covering the protests earlier in the month. In the days that followed those demonstrations, he voluntarily surrendered to federal agents and was charged in connection with the church protest incident.

With graduation just months away, he now faces the prospect of a federal trial connected to these events, part of a broader legal and political battle over immigration enforcement and protest rights unfolding in Minnesota.
