Field Hockey Falls Short in Loss to American

rp_primary_Delp_Alyssa_20150828_FH_026For the second straight game, Temple rallied to make the game close late, but in the end they couldn’t find the back off the net for the tying goal.

The Owls (3-7) found themselves down 4-1 with 25 minutes to go, they then scored two goals to cut the their deficit to one, but ended up losing the game 4-3.

American came out the gates quickly in this one as they got on the board just a minute and a half into the game as senior midfielder Jess Davis put one into a wide open net to give American a 1-0 lead.

Just seven minutes later American made it 2-0 as freshman forward Rafaela Rubas scored off an assist from sophomore defenseman Samantha McCormick.

It looked like Temple was going to be down 2-0 going into the half but, with no time left on the clock the Owls generated a penalty corner and senior forward Tricia Light was able to find the back of the net to cut Temple’s deficit to 2-1 going to halftime.

Just like in the first half, American came out fast again in the second half as just four minutes in, American extended their lead to 3-1 with a goal from senior forward Katie Lonsky who put one past Temple’s goalie on a breakaway.

With about 15 minutes left, the Owls cut the deficit to 4-2 as senior forward Alyssa Delp scored on a penalty stroke for the second straight game and for the third time this season.

Temple then cut it to a one goal game with just over two minutes left as sophomore forward Sarah Keer found the back of the net to make it 4-3.

The Owls pulled their goalie with about a minute and half left in the game, but just were unable to put home the tying goal.

For the game Temple was outshot 9-7 and generated seven penalty corners compared to American’s 12 corners.

Temple will open Big East play next Friday as they travel to take on #15 ranked Old Dominion.
