Ten days ago, Temple Athletics announced the return of its student-athletes to campus for voluntary workouts. Temple Athletics have confirmed formal workouts for fall sports will start on July 13th. This is part of a 3 week stretch that will facilitate the full return of fall sports for the university.
The university is allowing fall sport student-athletes to move back into dorm rooms starting July 6th. Before, students who came for voluntary workouts were in off campus living situations. As mentioned before, on the 13th, the formal workouts will begin. The target date for the return of basketball (men’s & women’s) is believed to be a week later, July 20th.
It was reported as of Monday, that approximately 50 students participated in voluntary workouts. Although these formal workouts are not mandatory, the hopes are that most if not all student-athletes for fall sports will return to campus to appear for workouts. It remains to be seen how Temple Athletics will implement the same safety protocols with more persons expected to be in Temple facilities. Some of those safety protocols included:
- Implementing social distancing procedures.
- A screening process for all student-athletes & staff, including COVID-19 testing.
- Adhering to Pennsylvania state guidelines with groups of no larger than 25 working out, part of the state’s yellow phase guidelines
