Jennifer Griffin Nominated for Campus Safety Award

Temple’s Vice President for Public Safety Dr. Jennifer Griffin has been nominated for Campus Safety Director of the Year for Campus Safety Magazine. Griffin was named as one of the 11 finalists for the award which included a pool of campus safety directors across the country.

The nomination comes amid a drop in crime on campus since 2023. According to Temple Police, crimes such as burglaries, motor vehicle thefts, thefts from auto and aggravated assaults have dropped 28% in the past year.

“We’ve seen a 28% drop in some significant areas. I would love to say that it’s because of all of the efforts of law enforcement, things like that, but I think it’s a combination of things” Dr. Griffin said.

Griffin emphasized that this nomination reflects the work of TUPD and the Department of Public Safety as a whole.

“I’m extremely proud of all of the work of Temple University Department of Public Safety, and this is just a reflection of all of the work of everybody on our team”.

TUPD Deputy Chief Michael Smith also complimented the work of TUPD officers on campus.

“Here on campus, we take a multi-layered approach to security. We have our men and women in uniform who are sworn law enforcement officers, police officers. And we also have our Temple security, our contracted security through Allied Universal”.

The winner of the award is set to be announced at the 2025 Campus Safety Conference in July.
