Saturday, March 29th marked Temple men’s tennis’s first match versus a fellow American Athletic Conference opponent. After a rough start for the Owls at the Manchester Raquet Club they recovered to soar to a well-deserved 5-1 victory over the UConn Huskies.
Men’s head coach Steve Mauro found the win encouraging as his team moves forward.
“This was a great win for us. We were excited to play a conference team and we played extremely well in singles. This should put us in the right direction as we continue to prepare for the conference tournament,” said Mauro.
After quickly losing the doubles point to UConn after two flights, the Owls bounced back to win four singles flights in straight-sets to take a 5-1 victory. Hernan Vasconez’s 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5 clinched the match for Temple.
Temple, now 7-10 on the season, will see their next action at the TU Pavillion on Thursday, April 3rd, against La Salle.
