What started out as a very tight game ended with a crushing loss to Rutgers. Two of the Owls’ freshmen, Feyonda Fitzgerald and Taylor Robinson, were key pieces throughout to keep the game close. McGonigle Hall saw many lead changes in the first half alone. The Temple Owls led 24-22 at the half.
As the second half got underway, the Scarlet Knights were able to gain the lead as well as build onto it. The Owls struggled to stay close until freshman guard Feyonda Fitzgerald of Temple scored a couple of three-pointers to keep the Owls within striking distance. Junior guard Tyonna Williams made the most of many opportunities while at the line by scoring 5 points in the second half.
As the game came to a close, the Owls’ strong effort was not enough to defeat Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights won this American Conference match-up 74-68. Fitzgerald led the Owls in scoring with 25 points.
On Tuesday, January 28, 2014, the Temple Owls will face the Connecticut Huskies.
