During the spring semester, seniors have one thing on their mind: graduation.
For many Temple seniors, the countdown to commencement brings a mix of excitement and uncertainty.
“I think there’s always that fear when you leave somewhere,” said Izzy Bernard.
Thousands are expected to graduate this May. For many, the moment feels surreal—especially after starting college in a global pandemic.
“I was wearing masks, it was the end of COVID, and now here I am four years later—graduating,” said Bernard.
Whether they’re heading to grad school, starting a job, or still figuring it out, graduation marks a major milestone for Temple seniors.
Some Owls, like Izzy Bernard, are flying across the country to continue their education. For Bernard, Tulane University is her next nest.
“I’m such an extroverted person that being in an area with a bunch of festivals and parties going on all the time is probably gonna be super fun,” said Bernard.
“I’m gonna miss everybody here, and like… this campus is just magical,” Bernard added.
Alex Pombo is trading a magical campus for a magic kingdom—she’s headed to the Disney College Program this fall.
“I wanted something where I was constantly active, moving around, talking to people—something in the events industry,” said Pombo.
While Bernard and Pombo are flying far, another senior’s semester took an unexpected turn.
“It kind of felt like COVID again—just kind of being, you know, confined to my room,” said Madri Mazo.
Mazo broke her kneecap over spring break. Her focus now is on healing.
“I think I’m just going to take the summer to recover. And then hopefully by September, I’m at 100%,” said Mazo.
Even with the challenges of injury and a tough job market, Mazo says she feels supported.
“It is a little scary, but I think I’ve made a lot of great connections throughout my four years,” Mazo said.
If you are a senior searching for resources, there are resources for alumni.
Klein seniors can still make appointments with career counselors, attend the career fair, and get their résumés reviewed. Information about this is on Handshake.
