SEPTA Proposes Cuts to Rail & Bus Services, Fair Increases

Septa has unveiled a new budget plan that would bring major changes to its services throughout the Philadelphia area. The new plan would cut over 40% percent of Septa’s services and bring fare increases of over 20%.

On Friday, April 11, representatives and senators of the Philadelphia area held a rally to voice their support for a $150 million Septa funding plan proposed by Governor Josh Shapiro.

Supporters of Governor Shapiro’s proposed Septa budget believe that Septa’s cuts could drastically impact residents getting to school, work, and tourist destinations.

Representatives and Senators supporting the plan are hoping to work with their colleagues in Harrisburg to get the budget passed in the Pennsylvania State Senate especially because of next year’s events including the FIFA World Cup and the 250th anniversary of the US.

Many Temple students say that they rely on Septa’s services and many of them have no other alternative to get to school. Septa’s services easily connect them with the rest of the city and the surrounding suburbs.
