(TOWSON, MD) Temple softball split a doubleheader with Towson on Wednesday, winning the latter of the games.
Sarah Prezioso completed the comeback victory for the Owls off an error in the top of the eighth. The run held, and Temple won 6-5.
Towson took the loss after shutting out Temple 7-0 earlier in the day, before a perfect game from Towson’s pitcher.
The Owls were down early on after Towson’s Missy McCormick slammed a homer over right centerfield in the bottom of the first, good enough for three runs. That three run deficit quickly turned into five as the Tigers tacked on two runs in the second. Runs six and seven came in the fourth, first from Jessica South on a solo homerun, and then a Hailey Balk deep ball good enough for a RBI and a Delanie Dunham score.
The nightcap looked like the same story as it took the Tigers just three innings to hop out to a 4-0 lead. It was not until the fourth that the Owls even got on the board off a Prezioso single bringing in Gina Pellechio. This marked Temple’s first score in 19 innings.
Towson matched that run with their own in the same inning, making it 5-1. Then in the sixth, Temple picked it up. The Owls scored four runs on five hits to knot the score.
The Tigers flirted with the win at the bottom of the seventh, with two outs and two runners on base, but strong pitching from Kelsey Dominik sent the game into extra innings.
Top of the eighth and Prezioso hits a single. She stays aggressive stealing second and advancing to third on an error to put herself in scoring position. Annie Marcopolus hit a ball to third, which was underthrown to first and Prezioso scored on the mistake.
Temple now stands at 11-18 and will face Rutgers in another doubleheader at home on Saturday, April 12th.
