South Fellini, Podcast Offer Philly Deep Cuts

Nestled in the East Passyunk neighborhood, South Fellini’s open door invites both locals and those from afar into Philly culture.  From stories of playing under the plug to the local origins of Tastykake, the Legends of Philadelphia podcast covers Philly culture in an inviting and conversational way.

Temple senior and South Fellini intern Robb Konczyk had the following to say about what role the podcast plays for people interested in the city’s hidden gems:

“It’s an entry point for a lot of new people coming into the city to kind of, you know, understand the little in-jokes and the culture of it all a little bit more.”

South Philadelphia locals, Johnny Zito and Tony Trov, began collaborating on creative projects during their time at Temple University.  The duo began printing tee shirts to fund original projects in film and music.  During the Covid-19 lockdown, Zito and Trov entered the world of Podcasting.

South Fellini cofounder, Tony Trov, explained how he and Zito effectively tell their stories in a dynamic way:

“We’re locals, so it’s sort of easy for us to explain these things, or things that are regular to us that we realize are not regular to non-Philadelphia people.

In addition to their podcasts, South Fellini’s brick and mortar store at 1507 E Passyunk Ave offers clothing and other merchandise celebrating all things Philly.  Those visiting the shop will find hats, shirts, and other apparel designed around local sayings, sports, neighborhoods, and more.

Students itching to dive into south Philly’s deep cuts shouldn’t hesitate to check out South Fellini’s work.
