With the 2016 season rapidly approaching, the Temple Women’s soccer team will need a way to replace the combined 20 goals and 46 points from the graduated duo of Kelly Farrell and Erin Lafferty. It seems as though the team will be looking for that spark to come from their highest returning goal scorer from the 2015 season, Elana Falcone.

Falcone was immensely important to the Owls success last season. In her sophomore campaign she finished third on the team in goals scored, netting six of her 23 shots on goal. Falcone also finished third on the team in points racking up 16 over the course of the season. Her biggest contribution came from her ability to set up her teammates with goal scoring opportunities, her four assists were the most on the team.

Falcone made a swift improvement from freshman to sophomore year. In 2014, Falcone appeared in 13 of the team’s games, without getting a single start. Last season she was on the pitch for all 20 of the Owls games, and started all but two of them. Her achievements and improvements did not stop on the field; she excelled in the classroom as well.

Falcone is a psychology major, and has had great success with her academics in her time at Temple. In 2014 she was named to Temple’s Director’s Honor Roll for having a GPA above a 3.0, and was named to Temple’s President’s Honor Roll in 2015 for having a GPA over a 3.5.

Falcone has been a standout talent on the soccer field since her freshman year of high school at Scranton Prep. She was a four-year varsity starter, and was named team captain her senior year. She is the schools all time leading scorer, with 84 career goals 31assists. In high school she was a four-time Lackawanna Soccer League All-Star, and was named to the Scranton Tribune All-Region team three times. The Scranton Tribune also named her the player of the year her sophomore and senior seasons.

Her speed on the field is no accident, as her athletic career extended past the pitch. She lettered all four-years of high school in track and field, and holds the school record for the javelin. She was a PIAA State Qualifier in 2014, and won three district medals in the javelin.

Athletic success runs in the Falcone family. Her sister Tianna plays soccer at Misericordia University, and her father Sam played football at Brown University.

If the Owls are looking for someone to to lead them in their 2016 season, it seems Falcone would be a good place to start.
