President Joe Biden met with Donald Trump to discuss the transition of power at the White House.
“Looking forward to having a smooth transition… and we’ll do whatever we can to make sure you’re accommodated with what you need,” said Biden.
After Biden’s victory in the 2020 election, Trump did not extend the same invitation.
Some students say this is a sign of growth in the relationship between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
“Obviously more mature… he wants to see better for the country, emphasizing unity rather than division,” said sophomore Gloria Chuma.
“I think it’s mature of Biden to extend that hand… that’s really important in this time,” said sophomore Elliet Schriver.
This meeting was the start of the transition of America’s leadership. Some people on campus are worried about this change.
Some students say that immigration is a point of concern for the new administration.
“I have a lot of family members that are currently in the immigration court system, so it’s definitely something that’s scary. It’s not looking good at all,” said Gloria Chuma.
Others value the environment.
“I’m especially nervous about his approach to climate change… we have been in crunch time for a while,” said Elliet Schriver.
And some are concerned about what Trump could do with a Republican-dominated Supreme Court.
“An issue for me would be him trying to institute prayer in schools, which he might be able to do with a more compliant Supreme Court than he had at the beginning of his term,” said James Currie.
