Tabor soars as Temple beats Oregon 10-8

Saturday at Geasey Field, it was basically “The Jaymie Tabor Show.”

Senior Jaymie Tabor came up huge for her teammates as she scored 6 goals that ultimately led to a victory over the Oregon Ducks.

Oregon took an early 1-0 lead in the opening 49 seconds of the first half off of a Shannon Propst goal. Even though the Ducks jumped out to a quick lead, Tabor and the Owls responded. The senior went on to score three straight goals that put her team up 3-1. Courtney Valdez of Oregon would then give her team some breathing room by scoring a goal which made the score 3-2. Tabor would go on to score her fourth goal of the game and give the Owls a 4-2 lead. After eight minutes of a stalemate between the two teams, a pair of goals by Valdez and and Propst tied the game up at 4-4. As the clock was winding down towards the end of the first half, Temple’s Katheryn Skahan would get the go-ahead goal with only just one second left. Temple went into the second with not only a 5-4 lead, but momentum as well.

As the second half began, Valdez comes out strong by tying the game 5-5. After that, it was all Temple. The Owls went on to score four straight goals making it a 9-5 game. Two of the goals came from Tabor, while Megan Tiernan and Rachel Schwaab each scored a goal a piece. Though it seemed like it was a foregone conclusion that Temple was going to take the win, Oregon refused to quit. With 2:41 left in the game, Olivia Pyne would go on to score for the Ducks making it 9-6. Just nine seconds later, Propst found the net making it 9-7. The late rally continued as Oregon’s star player Valdez made it a 9-8 game and Temple looked to be fading with 1:29 left. Despite the rally, Temple would hold on for the win as Kirstie Connor scored a open-netter. Temple defeated Oregon 10-8, improving to 2-2 on the season.

The lacrosse team’s next game is away at Colorado on Tuesday, March 4th.
