Temple Falls to UCONN in Overtime Heartbreaker

What started off as a run-away for the Huskies, is not how Temple wanted the course of the game to go. UConn was able to run the score up early in the game with four goals in the first half alone. Temple was only able to get one goal on the score board for the entire first half. Despite dominating on the offensive end and maintaining possession, the Owls just were not able to capitalize on the scoreboard. UConn outshot Temple 28 to 23, and that made all the difference in a heart break loss for the Owls. Temple came up short in an overtime effort, 9-8 UConn.

Being held to one goal in the first half did not fluster the Owls once it came time for the second half of the game. Temple continued to dominate on the offensive and immediately drew a corner. Goal. Within the next nine minutes, Temple was able to score four more goals. The Owls had scored five goals in less than ten minutes into the half. UConn answered back with only one goal within that time frame. The Huskies were now frazzled.

This is the style of play Temple has been seeing in the past two games, close games that come down to a few goals. The Owl’s impeccable defense has been what’s led them to several victories in such close games. However, their exceptional defense was not enough to stop the Huskies.

Although Temple’s efforts came up short, a slew of Owls contributed to their tenacious come back. Megan Pinkerton, Rachel Schwaab, and Brenda McDermott each fired in two goals. As well as Morgan Glassford and Nicole Tiernan adding a goal a piece. But ultimately, it did not add up to a victory.

Temple is back in action Saturday, April 16th, as they take on Marquette. The Owls overall record is now 9-4, and 1-2 in Big East Play.
