PHILADELPHIA, PA – Marybeth Freeman has publicly made it known that the team will be adding not one, not two, but six new talented individuals to the team next year. Among the 2017 incoming freshmen announced were: Taylor Alba of Dallas, PA; Dani Batze of Eden, Md; Cristina Carotenuto of Allentown, PA; Morgan Clark of Wyoming, PA; Mia Sexton of Langhorne, PA; and Grace Stanton of Lehighton, PA.
Taylor Alba is a student of Lake-Lehman with an impressive background as she was a player for the Electric Surge Field Hockey Club coached by Lunda and Chris Comiskey. Alba is also listed in the Top 50 by MAX Field Hockey for the Class of 2017. She is a two-time first team conference all star who plans to major in Business upon arrival to Temple University next year.
Dani Batze is a senior at Pocomoke High with eye catching stats. She is a four year varsity starter for the high school and coach Brandi Castaneda. Batze also plays for the Oranje Gotta Love It Field Hockey Club and coach coach Kathleen Fluharty. Batze is not only a National Honor Society, and Class Treasurer for Mu Alpha Theta; she was even a junior Olympian for the years 2014 and 2015. Batze has been named to the 2015 all-state first team, and two-time first team all-conference selection. Batze played for the National Future Championship during 2014, 2015, and 2016.
Cristina Carotenuto from Emmaus, and plays for the WC Eagles Club Team for coaches Jun and Richard Kentwell. Carotenuto has been an honor roll student throughout her high school career, is a member of the Spanish Honor Society, Mukhal Gupta Student of the Year in 2012, a National Futures Championship player from 2012-15 who plans to major in biomedical engineering upon arrival to Temple.
Morgan Clark from Dallas High School served as captain for Dallas’ team and coach Kylie Fisher as well captain for the X-Calibur Field Hockey Club for coach Tiffany Cappellano. Clark plans to major in criminal justice, and has earned all of her achievements including a Certificate of Achievement from the House of Representatives for the National Academic Squad Program in 2016, National Youth Leadership Award for STEM in Washington, D.C., and first-place honor and the Morris Award of Excellence at the Suzanne Maria Rossetti Memorial Juried Art Competition in 2015.
Mia Sexton of Neshaminy is the current team captain for Neshaminy High School and coach Jamie Pinto, and plays for Mystx Field Hockey Club and coach Tina Reinprecht. She is four year varsity letterwinner, a second team all-league selection as a junior, made the Bucks County Courier Times Top Goal Leaders list in 2015 and 2016, and is a distinguished honor roll student with AP and Honors classes under her belt planning to major in business.
Last but definitely not least is the team captain and 2015 Team MVP for Lehighton Area High School, Grace Shanton. Shanton plays under coaches Karen Wall, Abby Frey and Corinne McConville at Leighton, and also a plays for the Mystic Hockey Club and coach Phil Danaher. Aside from being a student on Principal’s List throughout her entire high school career, Shanton serves as Choir President, and plans to major in Biochemistry.
