In celebration of Earth Day, Temple University’s Office of Sustainability and the TSG Sustainability Committee hosted an Earth Day Expo in the Science Education and Research Center lobby. The event brought together clubs and organizations committed to protecting the planet and promoting sustainable living.

“We think it’s just a great culmination of all the different research, engagement and external opportunities we have here at Temple’s campus to engage with sustainability,” said Bryce Forys, Sustainability Coordinator at Temple University.
The expo featured a wide range of displays from both Temple-affiliated and external organizations. Some topics that were explored include plant-based food options, ethical fashion, environmental justice, and clean energy.
Rachel Higgins, co-founder of Fibershed, spoke about the importance of ethical practices in the fashion and textile industries. Meanwhile, Valery Trigsted of the Eastern Service Workers Association encouraged students to get involved with community advocacy efforts aimed at preventing utility shutoffs.
Sofia Taboada, president and founder of Plant Futures at Temple, highlighted her organization’s mission to promote plant-based food systems and careers aligned with environmental values.
From reducing waste to rethinking energy use, the Earth Day Expo invited the Temple community to take small steps toward a more sustainable future here in the community, and beyond.
