Temple men’s soccer took its first lost of the season on the road at Rider University to the Broncos 2-0. The first half saw both teams playing great defense and no one find the net. As the second-half opened the Broncos Rob Nardiello scored in the 54th minute, followed by another goal by Adrian Huss in the 63rd minute.
The Owls had opportunities to make it close with their best shots coming from Jorge Gomez Sanchez, who had a team leading 5 shots in the game. The 22 minutes to play, Gomez Sanchez was awarded a penalty kick, but the star couldn’t convert, as Rider goalie Ryan Baird made the clutch save.
Overall the Owls were able to out shoot the Broncos 19-11 but the story of this game was the Owls couldn’t find the net with Rider proving themselves as a formidable foe this contest. The Owls now sit at 4-1-0 and look to rebound against one of their Philadelphia Soccer Six opponents, Drexel on Tuesday 7:00 p.m. at Vidas Field.
