Catholic students are mourning the loss of the late Pope Francis. Freshman catholic Mara Faychak expressed her grief.
“I know he was struggling with poor health, but it was definitely a loss for me.” she says.
The Roman Catholic spiritual center on Temple’s main campus, called the Newman Center, also released a statement saying quote:
“The loss of Pope Francis impacts Temple the same way it affects the rest of the world, he was a world leader who led billions of people”.
In a city where a quarter of the population is Catholic, the death of the Pope had a huge impact on members of the Philadelphia community, who remember his visit to Philadelphia in 2015 during the World Meeting of Families.
“I heard it on the news. I was sad about it because I heard he was a pretty great figure” said Abdul Shaik, a Sophomore.
With the Conclave due to meet in May, there is already talk and speculation as to who the next Pope will be.
“I don’t know who it’s gonna be but whoever it is they have big shoes to fill” said Angelina Dos Santos, a Freshman.
Pope Francis’s funeral is set to take place Saturday April 26th at 4AM EST.
