In a fast pace conference game, the Temple Volleyball team was able to sweep UConn on Wednesday night, and this was Temples second victory against UConn this season. This victory brings Temple to 8-3 in conference play and 15-6 overall.
From the start of the match, the pace of the game was extremely quick, but neither team was letting down. Temple went on a 5-0 run in the first set that gave Temple the lead. With great hitting and blocking, Temple was able to pull out the first set win with a score of 25-18. With many long rallies in the second set, offense was key. It went back and forth until UConn made some unforced errors to give Temple the second set win with a score of 25-22. The third set was back and forth until Temple’s offense took charge. Temple won the third and final set with a score of 25-19.
There were many outstanding performances on Wednesday night. Junior Irem Asci racked up 16 kills and 14 digs for another double- double. Junior Izzy Rapacz had 9 kills and Senior Tyler Davis had 6 kills. Junior Kyra Coundourides had 39 assists and 7 digs. Senior Kirsten Overton also had 5 blocks and 4 kills with no errors.
“It definitely is a confidence booster beating UConn two times in a season,” said sophomore Mia Heirakuji. “UConn is a really great team. They have a lot of great hitters. To beat anyone in the conference is a good win.”
“We are coming to win Friday,” said Irem Asci. “We are ready and prepared. I think we are going to do a better job than we did in Memphis.”
The Temple Owls are back in action Friday night at 7PM in Pearson McGonigle against Memphis.
