Temple Tomorrow Elected as New Leaders

The ballots have been cast, and Lourdes Cardamone and Janeese Hochstetler are the newest leaders of Temple Student Government.

Cardamone says she feels like her hard work has paid off.

“I’m so excited, I cannot wait, I’m elated,” said Cardamone.

This marks Hochstetler’s return to Temple Student Government after taking a year off. She and Cardamone were already friends, which played a role in their decision to run together.

“I was so ecstatic when Lourdes asked me to run with her because I have full faith in her, and I think we would do an amazing job,” said Hochstetler.

The new team has a full agenda, including proposed changes to meal swipes. They hope to increase flexibility in how students use their swipes.

“Currently, with only one dining hall open, I think there’s not a lot of flexibility for students,” said Cardamone.

Textbook affordability is another key focus for Temple Tomorrow.

“The cost of living is just getting too high, and we really can’t afford hundreds of dollars of textbooks,” said Hochstetler.

Beyond textbooks, their campaign aims to make campus more affordable through resources like the Office of Sustainability and the Cherry Pantry to promote a more sustainable environment.

They also plan to add a new Chief of Equity, Accessibility, and Wellness position to their cabinet.

“A lot of times, we’re going through difficult and hard situations, and there’s not someone in the room designated to handle that,” said Cardamone.

Cardamone, who currently serves as the Chief of External Affairs in Temple Student Government, says the new administration will be more forward-facing.

“This is not just us reaching out one time to get your vote and then never talking to you again. We want to continue to work with you,” said Cardamone.
