Temple University Homecoming 2016 Recap

Fellow Owls came together for a week full of fun as Temple University celebrated homecoming last week. Parties, reunions, concerts, and shows occupied campus as students, old and new, prepared for the football game.

“I’m excited for homecoming [and] having all the alumni come. I’m going to enjoy this rare time we have a large tailgate” stated Taylor Cobb, Coordinator of Student and Young Alumni Engagement, as she anticipated the festivities ahead of her.

Temple held it’s annual homecoming pageant where the homecoming court competed to take the crown. Competitors’ talents included dancing, singing, speed painting, and rap sessions. The evening came to a close with contestants dressed in formal wear, participating in a round of questions and answers. In the end, Sydnee Jacuqes and Dyymond Whipper-Young were both crowned homecoming queens.

“I honestly feel like a diva. I had a moment when I won, but I’m honestly really just grateful for the support, the judges, everybody” exclaimed homecoming queen Dyymond Whipper-Young after being crowned.

Homecoming celebrations continued with a golf-cart parade and pep rally, hyping everyone up for the homecoming football game.

The decorated golf carts started at the bell tower and continued their journey driving around campus. Afterwards came pep rally, which included dance performances, games, music, and more.

A protest of Temple’s proposed plan to build a stadium broke out during the pep rally, but that didn’t stop the owl from celebrating tradition.
