Current Temple President Reacts to New Hire

After years of leadership changes, Temple University is excited to welcome John Fry as its fourth president in just three years. Fry, who previously served as president of Drexel University for 14 years, will succeed Richard Englert, who feels Fry is capable of leading Temple forward.

“He fits our mission. He understands our public mission, which is to serve society and to really reach out, to be compassionate to those who are most in need”.

Temple students are hopeful about the new opportunities Fry may bring. Former Temple Student Government President Rohan Khadka, who was involved in the presidential search committee, and believes Fry will make a meaningful impact on campus.

“ President Fry has been at a lot of Universities, often some that have different messages and different missions than Temple. So when comes here I expect him to be a listener and that who he’s trying to serve are the people who are here to get a better education and to get the keys for a better future”.

With safety a top priority for many students, the hope is that Fry will address ongoing concerns about crimes and security around campus. Temple sophomore Grady Bachman pointed out the need for more attention to safety off-campus.

“I think we have a really good tight-knit security on Liacouras Walk and all throughout Pollet and everything like that, but I think we could expand it so that the area around Temple where a large majority of students are living is also kept safe,” says Bachman

Junior Heera Chhetri shared similar concerns, mentioning her own experiences with crime around campus.

“I live on campus, and I’ve experienced and heard a lot of gun shootings and a lot of cop cars around here and there, so I feel like that is a very contentious issue that I want to be addressed”.

As Fry prepares for his new role at Temple, Austin Peechatt, a senior at Drexel University looks back at his legacy with appreciation.

“ I hope he keeps the co-op system alive. I think that’s like really been vital for Drexel,” says Peechatt.
