Leading up to the Oscars, Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication held their own watch party and red carpet event called “The Cherry Carpet.”
Students who attended appeared live on ABC’s “On the Red Carpet,” had photo opportunities on the red carpet and were supplied with light refreshments and snacks.
This event was put together by Vice Dean Dr. Maggie Place and Student Success Coordinator,Tyler DeVice , who had little under two weeks to plan.
In under 10 days DeVice and Dr. Place managed to pull the event together.
Temple Update spoke with Dr. Place about her reason for holding this event and she mentioned: “This is a fantastic way to feature Temple students and especially those who are involved with film, media, and television.”
Temple student Kayla Owens told Temple Update “events like this one help me tap into what I may be doing in the future, which I find extremely important.”
Another student, Olivia Chiaravalli, told Temple Update that this was her first Oscar watch party. Chiaravalli added, “it’s a Sunday at 5 pm and we got to get dressed up and come hang out and be on TV why wouldn’t you come.”
Tyler DeVice and Dr. Place hope to make this Cherry Carpet event a tradition for years to come.
