The Temple volleyball team went into their game on Sunday afternoon having won nine sets in a row, all against the American Athletic Conference. Bringing in their momentum, Temple won the first two sets against Cincinnati, making it 11 straight in a row.
The third set was where the Bearcats hit their stride, and defeated the Owls 25-23, ending the long streak that the Owls had going. The Owls bounced back, though, winning the fourth set 20-15 to take the match three sets to one. This was the Owls fourth straight match win, all against American Athletic Conference teams. The Owls are the only team left in the conference that still stands undefeated, now with a 4-0 conference record.
Overall, the Owls improved to 13-3.
Irem Asci led the offense with 25 total points, and Sandra Sydlik set her teammates up with 48 assists. As of October 1st, Sydlik was 15th in the nation with assists per set at 11.4. That contributed enough to put Temple at 20th in the nation as a team for assists per set.
Although Sydlik has been a great assister all year long, she’s starting to heat up scoring herself, with 11.5 points in the last two games.
In other statistics, the Owls are seventh overall in hitting percentage with .297 in that realm.
As a team, the Owls led the Bearcats in kills, hitting percentage, assists, and digs. The teams battled on defense, and tied for total blocks with eight on the game.
The Owls’ next three games are on the road, and the first two are against teams with winning records.
