The Owls dropped their second straight match Sunday after falling to the UCF Golden Knights in 5 sets.
Temple Volleyball who trailed 2-0, and was on the verge of being swept for a 2nd straight match went on a run that involved them winning two straight sets to help their comeback effort, but ultimately the Owls would fall short in the 5th set.
It would be a tail of two matches which in the first two sets, UCF would control the match. The first set was a competitive set in which there were five ties, and two lead changes. Towards the end of the first set, with the score being 19-18, UCF would score six out of the next nine points down the stretch to take the first set.
The 2nd set would be dominated by UCF as they would defeat 25-13. After Temple would cut a UCF lead early on to 14-12, UCF would notch an 11-1 run to take the second set.
The next two sets would be a whole different match in which the owls would win two straight sets. Temple would dominate the third set. The owls racked off a 9-0 run to start the third set and ultimately would defeat UCF 25-12.
Temple would again control the next set as the Owls, other than an early UCF 3-0 lead, would not give up the lead for the rest of the set. Temple would end up winning the fourth set 25-19.
The match would come down to a nail biting 5th set in which UCF would hold off Temple’s comeback effort by winning 15-13.
Though the Owls loss the match, Junior Irem Asci produced a productive showing as she would lead the way in kills for Temple, scoring 22. Seniors Tyler Davis, and Kirsten Overton produced solid showings for the Owls as well. Davis would put up 14 kills, while Overton would produce 10.
The next match for the Owls will be Friday Oct. 21 at East Carolina.
