After a play in game by ECU and USF in the first round of the AAC tournament, USF triumphed over the East Carolina Pirates, one of the few teams in the conference that Temple had only beat once. However, Temple was able to sweep USF throughout the regular season.
In Temple’s first match-up against the Bulls, it was a classic “Quenton DeCosey Show”. DeCosey dropped 30 points on the road, a new career high for the senior guard. The second time around, it was the big guys who carried the team. Jaylen Bond contributed 18 points and grabbed a whopping 14 rebounds. Obi Enechionyia was also on fire, dropping 18 points as well. In the past 12 games, Obi has averaged over 15 points. If Obi’s momentum carries into the post season, it will be difficult for USF’s big men to guard the 6’ 9” three-point threat.
Although Temple has shut down USF’s freshmen all-star, Jahmal McMurray, they have yet to face Chris Perry this season. Perry was out for the Bulls earlier this season, due to violating team policies. Where Temple struggles down low on occasion, Perry does not seem to. In USF’s matchup against ECU, he dropped 18 points and picked up five rebounds. It is safe to say that Chris Perry could be considered USF’s “secret weapon.”
Temple is prepared for anything. Throughout the season they have had 17 games decided by 5 or less points. Their record is 13-4 in those games and 7-2 just in conference games by five. In both of their matchups against USF, Temple was able to win both games by over five points.
The Owls (no.1) will face off against USF Friday March 11th (no.9), at 12 o’clock.
