Temple Women’s Soccer Ends Cold Streak, Beats Cincinnati 2-1

Warming up before game vs. UC

This season for the Temple Women’s Soccer team might seem like a reflection of their 2014 campaign: a hot start until conference play begins. The Owls were coming into Thursday’s game at the Ambler Campus with three road game losses, all with the final of 1-0, to start off the American Athletic Conference play. Facing a 1st-in-conference Cincinnati Bearcats team, the Owls knew this was their time to shine and dig themselves out of the rough.

After the first half, things looked as if the Owls were headed for another 1-0 loss, as Bearcats’ freshman Cassie Wheldon gets the ball right past Jordan Nash in the 22nd minute. The Owls came into the second half with an intensity. Elena Falcone gets the Owls their first goal in conference play early in the second half, and the go-ahead and later game-winning goal scored by Gina DiTaranto as she knocks in the header in the 56th minute.

Jordan Nash, despite letting the first goal of the game past her, continues to dominate the American Athletic Conference in the net. Including this game, she has 55 saves on the season. As of last week, Nash sits in second place for saves in the American.

The 2-1 win over Cincinnati advances the Owls to a 9-5-0 record (1-3-0 in conference play). They continue their prowl for conference victories as they host East Carolina this Sunday at the Ambler Campus. Game time is 1pm. Visit  owlsports.com for information on live stats and free live video.
