After UConn’s never ending first round game against Cincinnati, the Huskies eventually triumphed after taking the game into four overtimes. Since the Huskies essentially played an entire extra half, they should be a little more tired than usual heading into their matchup against Temple.
However, Temple can not go into this game…or any game too confident. Even though the Owls swept UConn in the regular season, this is going to be a vengeance game. UConn lost two nail biters to Temple, including losing by a buzzer beater, hit by Josh Brown, on their home turf. The second contest between the two seemed to be a runway for the Huskies when they had a double digit lead with less than six minutes remaining; Temple clawed their way back in, and won the second match up by five. “…it’s going to be a great game. We battled them both times, and I think it’s going to come down to a one possession game,” says Kevin Ollie, Uconn Head Coach. UConn has also lost its last four contests against the Owls, it is safe to say they are hungry for a win. Not to mention that neither team is a lock for the NCAA tournament. When asked if he feels if UConn is in, Ollie explains, “…I don’t know. I’m going to go prep for Temple, and that’s the only thing I’m worried about.” Both teams recognize that a trip to the finals would get them one step closer to a ticket for the big dance.
In the last time the Owls played the the Huskies, Shonn Miller was giving them problems. Miller scored 18 points and picked up seven rebounds in the first matchup, and 15 points and 4 rebounds in the second. Another player that needs to be on Temple’s radar is Daniel Hamilton. In the quadruple overtime, the point guard had 32 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists, in addition to playing 55 of 60 minutes.
The Owls are set to take the UConn Huskies in the semi-final round of the AAC tournament. The winner will advance to final round.
