After suffering a two point loss against them in the regular season, Temple’s women’s basketball team won by the same amount they lost by in a 64-62 win when it counted the most. Feyonda Fitzgerald lead all scorers with 23 points, while Tanaya Atkinson and Erica Covile each included a point-rebound double-double with Atkinson having 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Covile having 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Free throws were a big reason that Temple was able to win this game, just like the last one, as they took 30 and made 21, while Quinnipiac took 16 and made 10. In a two point win, every free throw made contributed heavily to that. For their next game, they will be back home to play Ohio University for the first time all year for the third round of the tournament.
The first quarter was very back to forth as no team was able to get on a big run, and the scored stayed pretty even throughout with a couple lead changes within them. The quarter ended up with Quinnipiac leading 16-14.
Temple was able to break apart a bit in the second quarter by going on a 13-3 run during the last four minutes, which gave Temple an eight point lead heading into halftime. Feyonda Fitzgerald lead all scorers with 12 points and Atkinson and Covile were already close to their double doubles. Aside from turnovers and blocks, Temple was outperforming Quinnipiac in nearly every way that they could for the first half of the game, statistically.
Quinnipiac was able to get themselves back in the game and even have the lead drop down to two at one point, but Temple held on to it for the entire quarter and ended the third quarter with a 48-45 three point advantage.
The fourth quarter proved to be more like the third quarter as Temple and Quinnipiac stayed neck and neck with each other for the entire quarter, with the lead never going above six points, but Temple was able to hang in there and keep the win.
