The race for next year’s Temple Student Government is officially on.
For the 2019-2020 election, two executive teams have announced that they are running.
The all-woman ticket is BEcoming TU, with a campaign led by Presidential candidate,
Francesca Capoz.
The campaign will focus primarily on celebration, inclusion, and transformation. BEcoming TU
plans to offer a peer mentorship program for Transfer students during their transition to Temple,
and invite North Philadelphia community members to at least on their town hall meetings every
month.
Title Nine training for all student organizations will also be a requirement for BEcoming TU.
“We think that Becoming encompasses an entire goal to make Temple, our community, our
administration; everything all together that encompasses Temple.” Capozzi said.
“We want to bring that together to make all of Temple the best that it can be.“
The competing campaign, RISE TU, is led by Alexandra Gordon, seeking to provide
permanent prayer spaces for religious students.
It also wants to provide students with 24/7 crisis support through Tuttleman Counseling
Services, as well as regulating a recycling program for off-campus students.
“But for us, we’re focusing more on inclusion. Inclusion requires action.” Gordon said. I think that
our platform represents that by showing that we actually pay attention to what students struggle
with, so whether that be providing people with SNAP benefits or having multi-purposes for
religious folk who needed space to pray.”
The Parliament Debate for at large seats was this past Friday, and the final debate between
both executive office campaigns will be held on Monday, August 1.
Elections will begin April 2, and end on Wednesday, April 3.
