The spring semester can be a challenging time for students, as classes and clubs rush to fit in everything before summer break.
Chloe David is a freshman navigating the spring schedule for the first time. One thing she can look forward to after classwork is TUPAC. “I was really shy my during my first meeting with TUPAC,” Chloe admits, “but a lot of the e-board members actually did approach me, and that really made me feel welcomed.”
We’re not talking about the rapper here. TUPAC stands for Temple University Philippine American Council.
“I just love the community, like seeing everyone come together. We’re just like a really big family,” Chloe says.
All this dancing and practicing is for the big show this Saturday. Many members in the organization have been rehearsing for months to get the show ready.
The name of the show? Balikbayan. Loosely translated, it means “returning home”.
And while the Philippines is across the world, many members already consider TUPAC a home of its own.
As the dance teams practice for the event, the choreography isn’t the only thing coming together.
With all the hard work that’s going into the performance, Chloe wants to tell the club something the rapper 2Pac said: “You are appreciated.”
“Our show is coming up…but I know our friendship and our love for each other is going to be forever. We’re a big family and all the hard work is just going to be worth it,” Chloe affirms.
Balikbayan will be hosted at Mitten Hall on Saturday, March 28th from 6-9PM. Many performances by TUPAC members and other Asian organizations will be done throughout the night. The event is open to everyone and has free admission.
