The volleyball team continued their dominance over opponents this year as they defeated Princeton (1-2) and Holy Cross (0-6) to move to 6-0 on the season and win their own Temple Invitational tournament. They moved to 3-0 at home on the season and 3-0 over the weekend.
In the match against the Princeton was an electrifying five set affair. They dropped the first set 25-19, and then came back to win the next two. The second set was hotly contested and a very evenly matched but the Owls came on top 25-23. The third set was much more open as Temple took control from the very beginning and cruised to a 25-16 victory. The fourth set was back and forth just like the second, and it had to go to an extra point but the Tigers got the final point and won 26-24 to even the match up at 2-2. In the fifth set, Temple fell behind by four early but stormed back to tie the game and go on to win by 2, 16-14 in the toughest match-up of the young season.
In the second match of the afternoon, against the Holy Cross Crusaders the Owls dominated and swept the set with relative ease. They won each set by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-13. Holy Cross stumbled out of the gate and couldn’t compete with a much more talented Temple team.
Junior libero Alyssa Drachslin was named the Temple Invitational MVP, and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by senior Jennifer Lacobini and freshman Dara Peric. Temple resumes play in the LIU Brooklyn Invitational tournament on September 12th. They begin their conference schedule on September 24th after the Big Five tournament which occurs on September 20th.
